The 44th running of the Irish Oaks was held on Wednesday 20th July 1938 over 1 1/2 miles of The Curragh, starting at the Howth Post. A pot of 2000 sovereigns was availble, 300 sovereigns to the second and 200 sovereigns to the third. The winner was owned by Lady Thelma Furness, trained by Atty Persse at Stockbridge, Hants, and ridden by P Gomez. The winner won by a neck, with 6 lengths between second and third. |
